Neal Casal, the guitarist with Circles Around the Sun and Chris Robinson Brotherhood, died tragically on August 26 at the age of 50. Previously, Casal had been in Ryan Adams’ backing band, the Cardinals, from 2005 until 2009. No cause of death has been made public, but a source close to Casal confirmed to Heavy that the musician died by suicide by hanging.
Casal was a native of Rockaway, New Jersey, where he graduated from Morris Knolls High School. At the time of his death, Casal had been living in Ventura, California.
Casal’s death was confirmed in a tweet from his official account that read, “It’s with great sadness that we tell you Neal Casal has passed. As so many know, Neal was a gentle, soulful human who lived life through artistry & kindness.” The message continued, “His family, friends & fans will always remember the light that he brought to the world. Rest easy Neal, we love you.” Ashley Vigoda, a woman whose Facebook shows pictures of her kissing Casal, told Heavy that she was in a relationship with him for the past two and a half years, during which time Casal had been in a long-term relationship with another woman. Vigoda said that she and Casal had recently decided to start a life together. Vigoda told Heavy that the pair had met via Facebook, which led to their eventual meeting at one of Casal’s shows. Vigoda is the granddaughter of legendary actor and “The Godfather” star, Abe Vigoda.
Casal had performed at the LOCKN’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia, on August 24, two days before his death. Casal had been accompanying Oteil Burbridge, who was celebrating his 55th birthday, at the show. Vigoda told Heavy that Casal had been depressed since the disbanding of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood in May 2019.
Vigoda told Heavy that Casal had promised her that he would throw up a peace sign during his show at LOCKN’.
She shared text messages on her Facebook page she says she exchanged with Casal in the days before his death, including one telling her he loved her. She also posted several photos of them together, and a photo of him with her mother at a concert. Photos on her Facebook page show they have known each other since at least 2017. Friends and associates of Casal have reached out to Heavy to say dispute the nature of his relationship with Vigoda.

    She can't be the granddaughter of Abe Vigoda, he only had one daughter. She is probably his niece.

Cesária Évora  (Portuguese pronunciation 27 August 1941 – 17 December 2011), more commonly Cize, was a Cape Verde singer-songwriter. She had received a Grammy Award in 2004 for her album Voz d'Amor.
